Prof. Amlan Bhushan trained as an Economist and as a Public policy researcher at the Australia New Zealand School of Government, Wellington, New Zealand. Starting with Board appointment to the largest youth charity in New Zealand, The young New Zealander's Foundation, a post he shared with the Governor of National Bank of New Zealand, Sir Wilson Whineray in 2004, to serving as the private Secretary to the Deputy prime minister, as his earliest career engagements.
In 2006/7 Amlan diversified to a range of senior consulting assignments, ranging from advisor to the Head of agricultural practice, at the Global Law firm Govett Quilliam, to serving on the board of an Organic fertilizer company, assisting their global diversification strategy. This continued to a consulting stint with the head of NATO Psychological services, on a range of interesting defense sector projects in Australasia and also in the EU. In 2009, Amlan moved to Sweden where he initiated his deep engagements with the Higher education, training, and development sector. From supporting universities of the Oresund network in their higher education and internationalization strategies, to alternate fund sourcing support to education and training companies as well the largest International University of applied sciences Bad Honnef, Bonn, Germany, and specialized consultancy for major big 4 firms, as an external expert on various projects.
Between 2012- 2015, and again 2017-18, Amlan moved to London, United Kingdom, on his entrepreneurial stint, first forming Bhushan Taylor, a world-class education and training consultancy, established with the Head of Janet, UK's IT infrastructure government body, and then, Anayaha capital, a fund sourcing platform, dedicated to large scale bond based corporate fund source. In 2019, Amlan moved to independent practice with a renewed engagement with the Higher education sector.
His current engagements include Regional Director, India China America Institute, a non-partisan think tank, led by the global Marketing Guru and Karlstadt Chair of Marketing at Emory University, USA. Amlan is also on the Reviewers panel of the Emerald Journal of emerging markets.
Amlan is a graduate in Policy and commercial Law at the ANZ school of Government, Wellington, New Zealand, and has Research Masters in Economics and Business from Lund University, Sweden. In 2006, he was nominated into a Doctor of Letters Honoris Causa.
